Jane Frances Scher JANE FRANCES SCHER, 82, Huntington, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was a 1944 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. After High School, she worked at Our Sunday Visitor. From 1965 to 1970, she was employed at Wabash Magnetics. She was a lifelong homemaker, a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington and belonged to Third Order of St. Francis, Widows of Prayer, and the Rosary Sodality. Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Dekalb County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Teresa (Hergenroether) Schortgen. She married Paul T. Scher in Huntington on Oct. 10, 1945; he passed away on April 5, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Janice M. Scher of Huntington and Julia E. Scher of Avilla; one son, Jeffrey B. (Choleta) Scher of Columbia City; three brothers, Robert Schortgen of Columbia City, Herb Schortgen of Albion and Lawrence Schortgen of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Marge Timbrook of Hicksville, Ohio and Emilie Heeter of Lafayette; and two grandchildren, Michael and Miranda Scher. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Scher; and two sons, Jon and Jerry Scher. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Father John Guimond officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with a rosary service starting at 6 p.m. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
