INTERLOCHEN - Thomas J. Schaub, 81, of Interlochen, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born in Leland, on Nov. 22, 1922, the son of Mark and Mary (Steimel) Schaub. On Feb. 22, 1944, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City, he married the former Betty J. Higbee
Tom was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy, and retired from Cone Drive in 1981, after over 20 years of service.
He enjoyed spending his retirement years in Florida, playing golf, fishing and riding his bicycle. He was very handy and enjoyed helping the neighbors. Tom truly loved his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty J. Schaub of Interlochen; four sons, Patrick (Trish) Schaub of Interlochen, Daniel (Sandy) Schaub of Williamsburg, Martin (Shelley) Schaub of Newaygo, and Vincent Schaub of Springhill, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ambrose (Eileen) Schaub of Traverse City; one sister, Eleanor of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., from the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral service will be held at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2004, also from the funeral home, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. James Gardiner will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, where full Military honors will take place under the auspices of Cherryland Post #2780.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes.
