LAKE LEELANAU ? Dale R. Steimel, 47, of Lake Leelanau, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at his home.
Dale was born Jan. 26, 1960, in Traverse City, the son of Donald and Charlene (Houdek) Steimel. On Aug. 29, 1981, at St. Michael's Parish in Suttons Bay, he married his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Ann Ehlinger. Dale affectionately called his wife "Lovee."
A native son of Leelanau County, he worked in the cherry industry all his life. Dale farmed his own orchards for decades and later on was an agricultural chemical sales representative to the local cherry farmers. He helped farmers in the five-county areas of Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Benzie, Antrim and Charlevoix.
Dale was a sportsman. He loved to hunt and shared this joy with his family. The best trip of his life was a hunting trip to Africa that was shared by the entire family. Dale, Lovee and the girls got to experience the wonders of the African continent.
Dale's life was centered around his love of family, especially his daughters. He was the rock of his family; his love for his girls and Lovee was boundless.
Dale is survived by his wife; his three daughters, Tiffany Ann, Mindy Mae and Nikki Kay Steimel; his mother, Charlene Steimel; a brother, Alfred "Buzz" (Debbi) Steimel; two sisters, Loraine (Jerry) McNeil and Connie (Denny) Maxon.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald Steimel; and two brothers, Kenneth and Gary Steimel.
A gathering will be held Thursday, July 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. A memorial Mass will be held Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Parish of Suttons Bay. Burial, in St. Michael's Cemetery, will be at a later date. The Rev. James M. Doherty will serve as celebrant.
