Obituary Bismarck Tribune (Dec 15, 2007)
Clementine "Clem" Doll, 86, Mandan, died Dec. 12, 2007, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. John Mathai officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary followed by a parish vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation continues 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the church.
Clem was born Aug. 16, 1921, at St. Anthony, the youngest of 16 children born to Dominic and Anna (Leingang) Bender. In 1937, at the age of 16, Clem moved with her family to Mandan where, in those early years, she worked cleaning homes in the area. She met Jacob L. Doll and they were married Nov. 12, 1940, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Seven children were born to this happy union. Their entire married life was spent in Mandan. Jake died June 20, 2003.
Clem was a very caring woman whose hands were never idle, whether baking, cooking, crafting her needle work blankets or embroidering beautiful items. Most of these she gave to family and friends as gifts. She was an enthusiastic baker and an excellent cook, specializing in ethnic German dishes. Clem also cared for both of her parents in their home until the time of their deaths. Her life revolved around her family and their welfare, but socializing with her friends was equally important to her. Clem was an avid pinochle and bingo player at Liberty Heights Community Center and had many friends there as well.
Clem had belonged to St. Maria Verein and Catholic Order of Foresters since 1941 and held several positions in both. She also was a member of women's circle at St. Vincent's Church, in Crown Butte. Volunteering was important to her, as well as to her husband, Jake. They delivered Meals on Wheels together for many years and she was also a volunteer for RSVP and Easter Seals.
Surviving her are her children, Linda (Kasper) Erhardt, Grand Forks, Karen Doll, Olympia, Wash., Jacob F. (Sherry) Doll, Center, Kathy (Dan) Bauer, Mandan, Darlene LeBlanc, St. Thomas, Bonnie (David) Vogel, Mandan, and Teresa (Kevin) Schreck, Park River; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Anton (Katie) Doll; her sisters-in-law, Irene Boehm, Magdaline Emil and Justine Voss; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clem will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; her son-in-law, Bill LeBlanc; two grandchildren, Thomas James "TJ" Doll and Glenn Smith; two great- grandchildren, Dominick Vogel and Alexis Vogel; and 15 siblings.
