OBITUARY: Newspaper name and date unknown.
MRS. JOHN BLAETTNER
Elizabeth Pechstein Blaettner, daughter of Katherine Kirchner and Conrad Pechstein, was born in Keokuk, Iowa, January 17, 1961. She resided in Keokuk until her marriage to John Blaettner of near Wyaconda, where she has since lived until her death on March 1, 1946, at the age of 85 years. The death angel lifted her from a bed of helplessness, upon which she had lain for the past five years.
She was the mother of two children, Miss Elora Blaettner and Mrs. Freal Hudson (Katherine); grandmother of Charles Taylor, George Hudson and Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor Priebe, and great grandmother of Kathy Priebe and Robert and Jack Taylor. She had helped her daughter Katherine to rear her children, Elizabeth and Charles, after the death of their father John Taylor.
Three brothers and three sisters-in-law preceded her in death: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pechstein, Mrs and Mrs. John Pechstein, and Mr. and Mrs. George Pechstein; also eight sister-in-laws and eight brother-in-laws in the Blaettner family, her parents and an infant brother. She is mourned and will be greatly missed by her husband, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and brother-in-law, Will Payne of Bradenton, Fla., and scores of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was a confirmed member of the Paul Evangelical Church of Keokuk all her life. In her youth, she helped the organization of the St. Paul's Young ladies Society, was a member of the choir and a teacher in the Sunday School. She took pleasure in the fact that so many of her young S. S. pupils now hold high positions of trust and honor in life. She was an accomplished pianist, remembered by all who ever heard her.
Though she attended school only eight years, she was a highly educated and keen minded person, able to think out and solve life's problems. Reared in a city, she came to the farm as a bride, with no knowledge of farming, but finished her life as a master in farm homemaking. She was respected and beloved by all who knew her as a perfect wife, mother, friend, and citizen.
Funeral services were held at her late home Monday morning at 11 a.m., Rev. G. V. Baskett officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. B. Hutchinson and Mrs. Josephine Fry with Mrs. G. V. Baskett at the piano.
The pallbearers were Charles Hudson, Willard Hudson, Fred Whitehead, Francis Bougeois, P. J. Smith, and Henry Saar. Internment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.
