A Tribute to Emma Blattner Payne (Mrs. W. E. Payne)
Mrs. W. E. Payne was born July 20, 1866, at Wyaconda, Missouri, and departed this life August 17, 1945, at Bradenton, Florida.
Besides her husband, Brother W. E. Payne, she is survived by her son, C. H. Payne, his wife, and two grandsons, all of Bradenton; and a brother, John Blattner, of Wyaconda, Missouri.
Brother and Sister Payne lived for a time in Boulder, Colorado; in June, 1920 they moved to Bradenton, Florida, where they conducted the Payne Jewelry Store.
Sister Payne was good to the sick and those in need, and often helped them. She was a beautiful woman in appearance and Christian character, and was adorned with, "Even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God of great price." I Pet. 3:4
She was a loyal member of the Methodist church, a devoted wife and mother, and faithful friend. She and Brother Payne celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary June 3, 1941. Before her passing she was unconscious for sometime; when she regained consciousness she told her loved ones she had been on a journey, and had met loved ones in Heaven. She also stated she had returned to tell them this, and that she would soon go away, and would not return here--a wonderful testimony.
She had faith in God and the Bible to the end of her pilgrimage.
Funeral services were held at Turner's Chapel, Bradenton, Florida, by Rev. Smith Hardin, a former pastor, August 19, 1945, at 3:00 o'clock, in the presence of a large company of friends.
The Eastern Star, of which she was a member, had charge of services at the Manasota Burial Park.
