Alma H. Preszler, age 75, of Menno passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 8, 2008. She reached the age of 75 years 1 month and 22 days. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Bethlehem Reformed OPC in Freeman, SD with Rev. Ken Honken officiating. Burial will be at the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD immediately following the service. Visitations will be 3-9 PM, Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home in Menno with the family present at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Judson Guericke, Douglas Guericke, Todd Holzwarth, Earl Keller, Steven Preszler, and Phil Kasten. Honorary pallbearers will be Gregg Bartolo, David Mack, Vincent Bartolo, Alexander Bartolo, Charles Bartolo, and Andrew Bartolo.
Alma Hildegarde Preszler was born November 17, 1932 to Arthur and Alice (Werning) Guericke near Clayton, SD on a farm. She was baptized on December 26th, 1932 by Rev. Luebke at Clayton. She was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on June 23rd, 1946 by Rev. Luebke. She attended grade school at Highland District #78. She graduated from Parkston High School with the class of 1950.
Before her marriage, she worked at Parkston and in Mitchell at a printing office and at a drugstore. In 1954, upon the death of her mother, with the help of her father, Alma faithfully devoted herself to the care of the family, especially her two younger brothers, Gilbert and Eldon. On December 16, 1956, Alma was united in marriage with Roland Preszler by Rev. Eberhardt at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Clayton, South Dakota. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary last year. They were blessed with two daughters.
Roland and Alma farmed for 43 years on their farm northeast of Menno. In the spring of 2000, they retired and moved into Menno, South Dakota. Alma taught Sunday school at Clayton for many years before she was married. She greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and reading. Alma and Roland traveled often to visit their daughters who lived further away.
Alma is survived by her loving husband, Roland of Menno, SD; two daughters: Charlene and her husband Gregg Bartolo of Long Beach, CA and Cynthia and her husband, David Mack of St. Louis, MO; two sets of twin grandsons, Vincent and Alexander, Charles and Andrew Bartolo; three brothers, Arthur Guericke and his wife, Arlene of Alexandria, SD, Gilbert Guericke and his wife, Carol of Las Vegas, NV, and Eldon Guericke of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters: Alice and her husband, John Holzwarth of Freeman, SD and Lena and her husband, Maynard Winter of Mitchell, SD; one brother-in-law, Clifford Preszler and his wife, Arlene of Menno, SD; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alice Guericke, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Helen Preszler, one brother, William and her stepmother, Justina Guericke.
Alma's Bible, faith in God, her family and friends were the most important parts of her life.
