Jason J. Schlaht, age 34, a correctional officer, died Monday, August 7, 2006. He was born October 14, 1971 in Fargo, North Dakota to Donald and Linda Schlaht. Jason was resident of Hanford, California for about a year and half and a native of Merced where he lived from 1985 2005. Jason graduated from Merced High School in 1990. He graduated from Merced College with an AA degree in Administration of Justice. Jason also graduated from California Department of Corrections Academy in June 2001. Jason was employed as an officer with the California Department of Corrections at Salinas Valley and Corcoran State Prison. Previously was employed by 84 Lumber Company. Jason was also a carrier for the Merced Sun-Star for several years. He was baptized into the Methodist Church. Jason never met a stranger and knew the meaning of being a true friend. Jason enjoyed NASCAR racing and playing darts but his greatest love was for his wife and two precious kids. He will be greatly missed by numerous relatives, friends and his loyal dog Chance.
Jason is survived by his wife, Sandra J. (Pryne) Schlaht; a daughter, Adelaide Maria Schlaht and a son, Wyatt Jay Schlaht all of Hanford, CA; Parents: Don and Linda Schlaht of Bossier City, LA. (formerly of Merced); a brother, Travis Schlaht and his wife, Kate Lehman of New York City; grandparents, Beth Lindsey of Bismarck, ND and Eugene Schlaht of Valley City, ND.
Jason is preceded in death by his grandfather, LeRoy Lindsey his grandmother Eleanora Schlaht and two cousins Norm and Tim Kurkert.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2006 at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, located at 901 W. Main Street in Merced. A Chapel Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Merced. Chaplain Steve Heath will officiate. The Corcoran State Prison Honor Guard will provide honors.
In lieu of flowers a fund has been established. The Schlaht Family Relief Fund at Travis Credit Union account #393011-SC, 510 W. Olive Avenue in Merced, CA. 95348.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced.
