McCarty, 83 ZANESVILLE - Robert L. McCarty, 83, of Grove City, formerly of Zanesville, died at 10:55 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at the Monterey Care Center in Grove City, following a short illness. He was born Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1923, in Zanesville, the son of John L. and Maud Hager McCarty. He married Mary L. Malone, who died on June 20, 2006, following 58 years of marriage. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Grove City and a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville. Robert graduated in 1949 from The Ohio State University School of Law and served as district law clerk for Judge Underwood. He entered private practice in 1952 with the law firm of Tanner, Weber and McCarty, and also served as Zanesville City Law Director and Public Safety Director. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a second lieutenant. Robert is survived by four sons, Thomas L. and Leta of Parkersburg, W.Va., Michael Q., Connie and Robert L. and Cindy of Grove City and John J. and Felecia of Canal Winchester; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Delores Dunkin of North Canton and Jane Rowan of St. Petersburg, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., with a Christian vigil service at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Robert Kitsmiller officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery with VFW Post 1058 performing military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Robert's name.
