Betty Jane Leingang, 78, Mandan, passed away June 4, 2014, at her home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Johnson Kurippilly officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a rosary/vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Betty was born May 11, 1936, on the Wolf homestead near Judson, to Ernest and Otilia (Hoger) Wolf. She attended Morton County grade schools and graduated from Mandan High School. On April 25, 1955, she married Kenneth Hoffman in New Salem. He passed away in 1960. She worked at Northwestern Bell from 1956 to 1961. On Feb. 6, 1961 she married Joseph Leingang and became mother to two step-sons, Dennis and Dale, and they had three children Duane, David and Delora. In the fall of 1966, she returned to the phone company where she worked until 1982. In 1986, she began working as a receptionist at Heartview, until it closed, and finally she worked for six years at Grand Forks Grocery.
Betty enjoyed doing crafts such as crocheting, knitting, needle point, and making doll clothes for her grandkids. She especially enjoyed sitting in her back yard visiting with neighbors and watching the kids play. She would drive her red convertible to see friends and to her Saturday morning meeting. She was always dressed in a matching outfit to include jewelry and purse.
She is survived by three sons, Dale Leingang, Pelican Rapids, Minn., Duane (Jane) Leingang, and David (Susan) Leingang, all of Mandan; a daughter-in-law, Carla Leingang, Bismarck; three sisters, Jeanette Wheeler, Ann Stumpf, and Darlene (George) Heck, all of Tacoma, Wash.; two brothers, Harold Wolf, Bismarck, and James (Eileen) Wolf, New Salem; a brother-in-law, Wayne Frohlich, Mandan; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; her daughter, Delora Leingang; her son, Dennis Leingang; and sister, Linda Frohlich.
