Joseph L. Frohlich, 89, Grand Forks, ND passed away on December 29, 2012 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks with his family by his side.
Joseph Louis Frohlich was born on September 25, 1923 the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Markel) Frohlich in Crown Butte near Mandan, ND. He attended Assumption Abby in Richardton, ND. Joseph entered the United States Army on February 1, 1943, serving in the Asiatic Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Theaters. He separated from service on March 8, 1946. He married Frances Greuel in Muskogee, OK on June 23, 1947. They returned to Bismarck, ND and later lived in Richardton, ND and Grafton, ND. They settled in Grand Forks, where he was employed at United Hospital. He retired in 1987. He was also employed at Whitey’s Café, East Grand Forks, MN for many years. Frances preceded him in death on November 27, 2007.
Joseph was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post 157 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817. Joseph was known as “Grandpa Joe” to hundreds of children and adults for his more than 20 years of volunteer work. He loved God, his family and his country.
He is survived by his sons, Edward (Mary), Billings, MT, Gerald (Donna), Grand Forks, ND, Jerome, Albert Lea, MN, Raymond (Karen) Fargo, ND, Stephen, Gregory and Kevin all of Grand Forks, ND; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; 2 infant granddaughters; his parents; a brother and a sister.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home - Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St., Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard.
Interment: Following donation to the University of North Dakota Department of Anatomy, Deeded Body Program, interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
