Obituary
Philip J. Landis, Orr, ND, age 72, was stricken by a massive stroke while working in his farm shop and died shortly after arriving in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND on Tuesday, October 26, 2004.
Philip James Landis was born on July 25, 1932 in Mandan, ND the son of Jack and Angeline Kadlec Landeis. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Pisek, ND where he attended grade school. He graduated from Park River High School, Park River, ND. He served with US Army as an air traffic controller and was discharged from active reserve in 1960. After his discharge he worked in Minot, ND , Omaha, NE and Grand Forks, ND. He began farming in 1955. In his early years of farming, he would bartend in the winter and farm during the farm season. He bartended at the Minot Elks, the Dakota Hotel in Grand Forks and the East Grand Forks VFW. He married Evelyn Osowski of Minto, ND in 1959 in Crookston, MN. The couple lived and farmed in the Orr area. They moved to a farm near Larimore and in 1974, moved into their home in Larimore. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, the East Grand Forks American Legion and VFW, the Masons of Larimore; the Shrine of Grand Forks; and the Potato Growers Association. He owned and operated Northern Ag Service in the 1980's along with the farming operation. He had farming interests in Grand Forks County, Griggs County and Foster County. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack. Brothers, Robert and Marvin. Grandson Kyle Kent Kyle Kent son of Philip E. Landis and Shery Eicholtz-Landis. Phil is survived by Evelyn Landis of Orr, ND; his four sons and their children: Philip E. Landis of Minneapolis, Tracy and Russell; Jay M. Landis of Larimore, Christopher, Jenna Lynn and Paul; Robert Landis of Laredo, Tx., Lyndsey and Josh; and Tim Landis of Fargo, Zachary and RomaKay; his mother Angeline Landeis of Larimore; sisters, Jacqueline McMahon of Larimore and Yvonne (Dean) Frost of Inkster, ND; brothers Aloys ""Butch' (Gayle) Landeis and Joe (Fran) Landeis both of Larimore; one uncle, Joe Kadlec of Park River, ND; 4 aunts, Clem Robinson of St. Paul, Agnes Peterka of Grafton, ND, Rose Pavek of Fargo and Ann Kennecott of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday, October 29 from noon to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home; one hour prior to family service in church. Family Service Friday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore. Honor Guard East Grand Forks VFW and American Legion. Interment Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND. Memorials - family prefers to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital. Arrangements with Brown Funeral Home, Larimore, ND.
