Anna Dauenhauer, 94, Bismarck, died April 23, 2003, at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT at St. Joseph's Cemetery, south of Glen Ullin.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Anna was born July 22, 1908, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Anton and Margaret (Gartner) Hertz. Anna grew up on the family farm, where she had many rich memories of being a country girl. She married Christ Dauenhauer on June 20, 1928, at St. Joseph's Church. They lived and farmed in the Mott and Glen Ullin areas. Her husband died in 1952, and Anna continued to farm until 1962. She moved to Bismarck, where she continued to be a homemaker.
Anna worked with the St. Alexius Auxiliary and with the Cathedral parish for many years.
Known for her many hats, Anna enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting and traveling to visit family. What Anna especially liked, though, was seeing and holding her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and having time with her family.
Anna was a wizard with cards up until she retired as a whist card shark at age 93. "Don't try to beat Grandma."
She was a woman of deep faith who loved her farm and loved her family.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Venita (Doll) and Wally Gunderson, Mandan, Rosemary Dauenhauer, San Francisco, and Sally and Gary Carignan, Salem, Ore; her sons, Al and Elaine Dauenhauer, Clarence Dauenhauer, and Bob and Helen Dauenhauer, all of Bismarck, and Pat and Sheila Dauenhauer, Charlotte, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister; three brothers; two great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law.
