Edward Raymond Dauenhauer left this world on his journey to our Lord peacefully in his sleep July 1, 2010. Ed was born November 16, 1930 in Taylor, North Dakota to Florian and Anna Dauenhauer. He was one of six children, 4 boys and 2 girls. His family moved to Vancouver, Washington and then on to Yakima, Washington where the weather was better for his father's asthma.
Ed met his wife of 55 years, Loretta Maier, at a Catholic Young Adults Club function in Yakima after serving a term in the Navy. They married on September 4, 1954 and proceeded to have seven children, 4 sons and 3 daughters. They made their home together in several cities, White Center, Santa Maria (California), Yakima and Tukwila and finally Kent, Washington.
Ed worked various jobs throughout his life retiring from The Boeing Company as an aircraft inspector. He was very popular when he worked for a time as a custodian of Foster High School in Tukwila, touching the lives of and being a positive influence to many of the students there.
Ed had a passion for coaching. He coached women's softball for years, at one time having all three daughters and his wife playing together. He had a way of passing his passion for the sport onto the players, helping them learn the skills required while learning to love the game and having fun playing. He also coached boys' soccer and baseball with some of his sons. Soccer was at a time when the sport was new to Washington. He asked if someone was going to teach them (the coaches) how to coach soccer; he was handed a book, told to read it and he would then know more about soccer than the boys he'd be coaching.
Ed also had a passion for creating gardens and building landscape pools. His grandchildren and great grandchildren had a special bond with their grandpa, immediately going outside with him to his beautiful garden to cut flowers to bring in for grandma to put in a vase. Ed was the kind of person who made people feel welcome. He liked playing card games. He found it a good way for people to enjoy each other and to give new people a chance to get to know everyone. He loved family functions. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nephews, nieces and relatives enjoyed and loved him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Loretta, children, Dale, Kim Favorite (Steve), Lynn, Lance (Donna), Donna Moss (Joe), Mark (Tami) and Lorne, 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol Bjorn of Ephrata and Marie Schneider of Yakima.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Anna, and his three brothers, Paul, John and Pete. Ed was very much loved and will be missed greatly
