LOWER SALEM - Delmer L. Hendershot, 81, of Lower Salem, passed away at his residence on Thursday morning (March 24, 2011). He was born on Tuesday, April 2, 1929, in Germantown, Ohio, to the late Benjamin Cresswell and Dora Clara Pabst Hendershot.
He worked for Union Carbide for twenty-three years as a crane operator and was a member of the Warner Community Church. He loved playing cards and was in the Senior Citizen Euchre Club at the O'Neill Senior Center in Marietta and the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell, Ohio. He enjoyed raising cattle, gardening and canning.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marjorie Hall Hendershot; one daughter, Beverly Erb of Fleming, Ohio; two grandchildren, Angie Gentile (Andrew) of Cutler, Ohio, Steve Erb (Julie) of Belpre, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Bailey Gentile, Holly and Kelly Erb; two brothers, Lloyd Hendershot of Marietta and Dale S. Hendershot of Marietta; two sisters, Olive Moore of Celina, Ohio and Marilyn Hendershot of Marietta; six stepchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Hendershot; and son-in-law, James R. Erb.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday (March 28, 2011) at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with the Rev. William Pickenpaugh officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday (March 27, 2011) at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. and until time of service on Monday.
