John Michael Trapp
John Michael Trapp, 93, of Paris, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, in his residence in Paris Township.
John was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Mt. Carmel, to Peter and Minnie (Peter) Trapp. He married Rosa Christina (Dahmus) Trapp Feb. 18, 1939, in Champaign. She survives. Also surviving: five sons, Michael (Patti) Trapp of Elmhurst, James Trapp of Indianapolis, Louis (Ingrid) Trapp of Miami, Fla., Walter (Judy) Trapp of Paris and Paul (Opal) Trapp of Westville; three daughters, Rosemary (Silas) Lake of Belmont, Calif., Marci (Terry) Laughlin of Paris and Mary Ann (Jack) Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, James A. (Theresa Bernadette) Trapp of Dennellon, Fla.; three sisters, Celeste (James E.) Baker of San Marcos, Calif., Helen Louise (Joseph Anthony) Schulte of St. Louis, Mo., and Dolores Edna (Harold) Batcke of Evansville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Catherine Decker, a brother, Paul Trapp, and a great-grandson, Kyle Trapp.
He earned a BS in agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1939 and was a member of the U of I gymnastics team. He taught high school agriculture for four years in Chester. He farmed for 23 years and was a real estate broker and farm land appraiser from 1966 until his retirement in 2005.
He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Paris. He served on the U of I Agriculture Association for six years and the National Suffolk Association for two years. He was a member of St. Mary?s Cemetery Board, 25-year member of the Board of Directors at Edgar County Bank, member of Knights of Columbus Council 860 and a life member of the U of I Illini Association. His hobbies included encouraging his children, wine making, traveling, fishing, gardening and listening to classical music.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Paris; Friends are invited to call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home in Paris with a wake prayer service at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery in Paris.
Family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary?s School or St. Mary?s Cemetery.
