Obituary of Mildred Schafer Slack was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 6 Sep 1964:
MRS. MILDRED SLACK, NURSE, DIES
Mrs. Mildred Slack, 55, of 958 Forest avenue died at Fairview Park
Hospital in Fairview, near Cleveland, about 10 p.m. Friday. She suffered
a heart attack while visiting in the Cleveland area.
Mrs. Slack was born Aug. 8, 1909 in Braddock, Pa, a daughter of
Leonard and Katherine Singer Schafer.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic church and the Altar
and Rosary Society of the church. Her husband, George Slack, died
July 3, 1962.
Mrs. Slack graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in
1932. She was employed by Dr. Harry Powelson from 1930 to 1938.
Mrs. Slack then was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Cincinnati
and later at St. Anthony Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She was supervisor
of pediatrics at the Louisville hospital. She was reemployed by Dr.
Powelson in 1963.
Surviving are four brothers, Edwin Schafer of 842 Orchard Hill road,
Carl of Toledo, Lucas of Newark, and Ralph of Port Clinton; three sisters,
Mrs. Marcella Wendling of Bay Village, Mrs. Helen Rovincanec of Warren,
and Mrs. Mary Hudak of Steubenville.
Services will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic church at 11 a.m. Tues-
day. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited by the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Nicholas
Church at 8 p.m. Monday at Forest Avenue Chapel of Bolm-Bruan Funeral
Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
