Jacob Froelich
Jacob M. Froelich, 82, Mandan, died June 9, 2002, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Jake was born Feb. 22, 1920, to Mike and Margaret (Hatzenbuhler) Froelich in Solen. He grew up and was educated in Solen. He served in Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1939, and the U.S. Army in Egypt, Libya, Italy and the United States from 1942 to 1945. He married Fern George on July 15, 1946, in Solen. Over the years, Jake owned and operated Jake's Bar, Solen Motor Garage and a school bus, managed the Solen Equity Exchange Elevator and was a rural mail carrier.
After his retirement he enjoyed working at Big Foot Tavern, his daughter and son-in-law's bar. In Jake's early years, he enjoyed working with horses and horse shows. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons, and playing cards and pool. He was a member of the township, city and fireman boards in Solen for years. He was active in and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
They moved to Mandan in 1992. Jake was in the Baptist Home after suffering a stroke in 1997.
Jake is survived by his wife, Fern, Mandan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Darlene, Solen, and Mark and Carol, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Riedinger, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Cory and his wife Gail Riedinger, Travis and Brandon Riedinger and Kendra, all of Bismarck, and Sonya, Solen; two great-granddaughters, Tiana and Briele Riedinger, Bismarck; two sisters, Madeline and Eva Hagstrom, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Maggie Froelich; four brothers-in-law and their wives, Rudy George, Al and Lena George, Arnold and Karen George and Frank and Diane George; and many nieces and nephews.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leo and Pete; and his sisters, Betty, Beatrice George and Rosemary Bole.
Jake was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by his family.
