Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, March 8, 1950, Wednesday, pp. 1 & 2:
L. S. Seibert Succumbs at Texas Home ? Former Local Man Headed Legion
Louis S. Seibert, 57, ex-resident of Shreveport and former chief clerk of the Gulf Refining Company here, died at his home in Beaumont, Texas, at 4 p.m. yesterday.
Seibert, who lived in Shreveport from 1922 to 1947, was past commander of the Lowe-McFarlane Post No. 14 of the American Legion and especially active in servicemen's affairs while in Shreveport.
At the beginning of World War II, Seibert started the Servicemen's Center on Marshall Street under the auspices of the Lowe-McFarlane Post. He was a member of the Caddo Parish police jury in 1942-44.
Seibert was the first scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 17, sponsored by the Lowe-McFarlane Post, which was organized in 1932. In 1933 Seibert took the scouts to the World's Fair in Chicago by motorcade and in 1939 journeyed with the scouts to the World's Fair in New York.
Seibert first came to Shreveport in 1922 after first being employed with the Gulf Company in Mooringsport for three years. He retired from the company in 1947 and moved to Beaumont where he had operated a greeting card store for the past three years.
Seibert was one of the first local legionnaires to be awarded a life membership in the Lowe-McFarlane Post. He was also chef de gare of Voiture 137 of the 40 and 8 in Shreveport in 1941-42.
For a number of years Seibert was chairman of the Boy Scout Troop No. 17 and for eight years was instrumental in the troop's collecting and repairing broken toys which were distributed to underprivileged children in Shreveport.
He was active in the erection of the boathouse and caretaker's home on the Lowe-McFarlane property on Cross Lake several years before the club house was erected.
Funeral services will be held in Beaumont at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Survivors besides his widow are one son, Jack Seibert; two daughters; three grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Tom Wren, of Beaumont.
Note: Per WWII draft registration card, Texas certificate of death and headstone, he had no middle name/initial.
