Leo N. Weimer, active in Lancaster politics

Leo N. Weimer, longtime public servant in both the Town and Village of Lancaster, died Thursday in McAuley Residence, Town of Tonawanda, following a long illness. He was 90.
A lifelong Village of Lancaster resident, Mr. Weimer graduated from St. Mary?s High School, Lancaster, and attended Canisius College.
He opened the Leo N. Weimer Insurance Agency in 1939, retiring from there in 1983.
In 1947, he served as police justice for the town. In 1948, he became a village justice and served in that role until 1955. Mr. Weimer served many years as police commissioner, until 1959.
From 1959 to 1968, he was a a member of the Village Board and from 1968 to 1975, he served as town supervisor.
Mr. Weimer served in both the Lancaster Industrial Development Agency and Urban Renewal Agency.
He was a member of St. Mary?s of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lancaster Lions Club, the Elks Club, and Knights of Columbus, and also was a volunteer firefighter in the village and a director of the Lancaster and Depew Boys Club.
His wife of 38 years, the former Dorothy Tates, died in 1977.
Surviving are two daughters, Susanne Rogers and Diana Norris; one son, David; and one sister, Joan Gorenflo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a. m. Monday in St. Mary?s Church, 1 St. Mary?s Hill, Lancaster.
