  REMARKS: VALENTINE BROUGHT HIS WIFE AND FAMILY TO AMERICA IN 1892. A HOMESTEAD NEAR HOSMER, SOUTH DAKOTA. IN 1908 with two wagons holding the mother and children and all their possessions, herding LIVESTOCK, THEY CAME TO A FARM WEST OF VENTURIA, NORTH DAKOTA, THE AREA AND THE BAPTIST CHURCH NEARBY WAS CALLED KASSEL A NAME THEY CARRIED WITH THEM FROM THE PLACE THEY CAME FROM IN RUSSIA. LATER MOVED TO A FARM SOUTH EAST OF LEHR, NORTH DAKOTA IN APPROXIMATELY 1916.

Valentine Bender Birth: Jun. 16, 1858 Velykokomarivka Odes'ka, Ukraine Death: Sep. 24, 1924 Lehr McIntosh County North Dakota, USA Valentine BENDER born 16 June 1858 in Kassel, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia was the son of Johann BENDER and Katharina REUTHER. Valentine married Christine BOSCHEE in about 1887 in Kassel, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia. The couple was blessed with no less than 15 children. As per the ship's manifest at age 34 Valentine and Christine BENDER with their children; Justine, Friedrich and Lydia immigrated to America via the Port of Bremen, Germany aboard the SS "Elbe", and arrived at the Port of New York, New York on the 10th of May 1892. Their intended destination was recorded as Dakota. Initially the Valentine BENDER family settled in Hosmer, Edmunds County, South Dakota where most of their children were born. In the Spring of 1908 the family moved to Venturia, McIntosh County, North Dakota where Valentine bought 3 quarters of land within Sections 26 & 27 of Twp 130, Rge 72, NW of Venturia. In 1919 they moved to Lehr, McIntosh County, North Dakota where Valentine died in 1924.
