Obituary:
Walter L. Heckenlaible was born April 4, 1931 to Emil and Emma (Koerner) Heckenlaible at Menno, SD. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. On November 18, 1956 he married Annetta Semmler at the Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. They farmed near Bridgewater until 1983 and then moved to Mitchell. While in Mitchell he worked at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for over 25 years. He was a charter member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church and was a member of the Bridgewater American Legion. Wally loved to sing and sang with the Mitchell Barbershop Chorus and the Gentleman?s Quartet for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Annetta, three daughters: Peggy Lou Heckenlaible of Bozeman, MT, Beverly Luoma and husband Brian of Fairbanks, Alaska and Dr. Myra Jean Gotto and husband Kevin of Windom, MN, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters: Caroline Brandsma and husband Bob of Sioux Falls, Lillian Weiland of Rochester, MN and Marilyn Lovett and husband Jim of Harrisburg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Harold Willaredt and nephew, Mark Willaredt.
