MENNO -- Anna E. Schempp, age 100 of Menno passed away Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church, Menno, SD, with Rev. Brad Danielson officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 4:30-9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be David Schempp, Dean Schempp, Glenn Kirschenman, Rano Kirschenman, Dale Kirschenman and Raymond Woehl. Honorary pallbearer will be Dale Schempp.
Anna was born on April 23, 1904, in Yankton County to Jacob J. and Eva (Schaeffer) Kirschenman. She was baptized at Saron Reformed Church of rural Menno. In 1912 the family moved eight miles northwest of Menno, where she attended Tschetter Public School, Dist. #29 until the seventh grade when dad decided that she needed to stay home to tend to the work and family matters of the farm. She married Roy Heckenlaible on November 26, 1939, and they farmed together until his passing in July of 1960. She continued to operate the farm and was active in gardening and helping other members of her family. She married Emmanuel Schempp in September of 1966, and was happily married to him until his passing in May of 1979. She entered Salem Mennonite Home in Freeman, SD, in May of 1994 and in June of 2002 entered the Menno-Olivet Care Center.
She will be remembered for her quiet, gentle manner, and her love and faith in God.
She is survived by one stepson Duane (Ella) Schempp of Overland Park, KS; 3 step grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 9 brothers (3 in infancy) and two husbands.
