Beula Harris Neuhart, age 82 of Madison, Ga., formerly Springfield, Mo., passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Madison, Ga. after a brief illness. She was born on August 22, 1927 in Lee's Summit, Mo. to Howard Harris and Mattie (Beggs) Harris. Beula was married on June 2, 1948 to Donald Ray Neuhart. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2005. She received her Bachelor's degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.; and Master's and Specialist's degrees from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. During their married life they lived in Missouri, Ohio, Maryland, and Minnesota, finally ending up in Springfield, MO where she taught school for many years. She taught elementary grades as well as serving as a principal. Her last teaching assignment was at a school for "at risk" students. Her family remembers that she always saw the best in her students and championed the cause of less fortunate students. She began a reading buddy program in Springfield to bring books to children. Beula was a member of the Kappa Kappa Iota Honor Society. She enjoyed playing bridge, singing in church choirs, missionary organizations, and was an avid tennis player and fan. When she was no longer able to play, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play high school matches. Since moving to Madison, Ga. in 2009, Beula joined Madison Baptist Church and forged many new friendships. Beula is survived by her children, Dan Neuhart and his wife Grace Ann of Newport News, Va., Melody Neely and her husband Robert of Ypsilanti, Mich., Dave Neuhart and his wife Lori of Madison, Ga., her twin brother, Beverly Harris of Bolivar, Mo., and six grandchildren, Ryan Neuhart & Kristina, Grant Neuhart & Leila, Drew Neuhart, April Beebe & Micah, Ross Neuhart and Nathan Neuhart. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. with Reverend Michael Overton officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Mo.. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Bolivar, Mo. A visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm, Saturday prior to service time in the First Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo.
