Aberdeen, SD-Funeral service for Clarence Bender, 84, of Aberdeen and formerly of Venturia, ND will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Aberdeen. The Rev. Randy Battey will officiate.
Burial will be at 3:30 pm at Venturia Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm with family present from 7-8 pm at the funeral home.
Clarence died October 25, 2013 at his home.
Clarence was born on June 17, 1929 to Samuel and Leah (Breitling) Bender on the family farm west of Venturia, ND where he was raised. On September 14, 1952 he married Sadie Bertsch in Venturia Baptist Church, and together they resided on a farm near Venturia for 54 years. Upon retirement from farming, they moved to Aberdeen in 2006.
Clarence was an active member of Venturia Baptist Church and served as an Adult Sunday School Superintendent, as Treasurer, and as a Deacon. He was a faithful member of the church choir.
Clarence liked to watch baseball and took joy in watching baby calves. He loved to laugh and appreciated a good joke. He especially enjoyed spending time with neighbors and friends and family.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sadie; two sons, Kimlyn (Trudy) Bender, Woodway, TX, and Kerry (Stacy) Bender, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, and Karalyn Bender, and Elizabeth and Josiah Bender; two brothers, Myron (Betty) Bender, Grand Forks, ND and Oliver (Ramona) Bender, Harvey, ND and one sister, Ruby Grenz, Jamestown, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Delbert, and infant sister LaVerne.
