Birth: Nov. 30, 1905 Caruthersville Pemiscot County Missouri, USA Death: Jan. 9, 2000 Matthews New Madrid County Missouri, USA Bessie Huntley Wright, 94, formerly of Deering, died Sunday, January 9, 2000, at the Sells Nursing Home at Matthews, Mo., where she had lived for the past seven years. She was born on November 30, 1905 in Caruthersville the daughter of the late William and Tula Huntley. Wright graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1925. She taught school for 35 years, mostly in the Deering School District. She was a member of the Deering United Methodist Church and served on the official board for several years. Her favorite song was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." She was united in marriage to Ezra Wright in 1935. Wright was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Freeman, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include two sisters, Mildred McMackins, and Kathryn Schowe; a brother-in-law, Clay Conner; a host of other relatives, and many friends. Services were held Wednesday, January 12, 2000, 11 a.m., in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, with Rev. Steve Turner officiating.
