Irene (Deibert) Opp, 90
July 16, 1915 - June 19, 2006
Memorial services for Irene Opp were held Friday, June 23, 2006, at 11 a.m., at South Canyon Lutheran Church, Rapid City, with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating.
Services were under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Wilma Irene Deibert was born on July 16, 1915, in Herreid to Adam K. and Louise (Heinrich) Deibert. She grew up and attended school in Herreid, graduating from high school in 1933.
On December 6, 1936, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Opp in Eureka. The couple lived in Eureka, Parkston, Pierre, and Huron. After Harold?s death in 1976, she moved to Rapid City. She was a longtime employee of Braun?s Clothing, retiring in 1996. She was well-known for baking kuchen for South Canyon Lutheran Church and was known as the ?Kuchen Lady.?
She died at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood on Monday, June 19. She attained the age of 90 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Louise French and husband, Jerry, Rapid City; son, Richard Opp, Rapid City; grandchildren, Mike and Ariana Opp and their children, Elissa and Kaitlyn Opp, Reno, Nevada, and Steven Opp, Greeley, Colo.; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Deibert, Salem, Ore., and Delphine Opp, Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; two sisters, Johanna Mehlhaff and Hilda Gerdes; and two brothers, Adam and Melvin Deibert.
