Mary L. Zerger
July 28, 1902-Jan. 16, 2007
A funeral service for Mary L. Zerger, 104, of Newark, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 275 W. National Drive, Newark, with the Rev. Richard W. Hurdiss officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark.
Mrs. Zerger passed away Jan. 16, 2007, at Arlington Care Center. She was born July 28, 1902, in Newark, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Emma (Abele) Vogelmeier.

Mary retired in 1962 as matron of the Licking County Children's Home, having served with her husband, Walter, as superintendent for 25 years. Previously, she taught in the Licking County Schools and substituted in the Newark City Schools after her retirement.
Mrs. Zerger was active in numerous community, civic, professional and social organizations. She was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where she taught Christian education and Sunday school, served as organist for many years, sang in the choir, served on the church council and was active in various church organizations.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Zerger, of Newark; nephew, Charles (Jeanne) Vogelmeier, of St. Louisville; great nieces and nephews, Marla (Greg) Crowthers and Jeff (Mary Anne) Vannest, of Heath, Neil (Sue) Vogelmeier, of Newark, Carol Gibson, of South Carolina, and Tom (Lori) Vogelmeier, of St. Louisville; and a cousin, Mary Louise Block, of Sunnyvale, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter O. Zerger; brothers, Edward Vogelmeier and Henry A. Vogelmeier Jr.; sister, Dorothy Vogelmeier; niece, Sue (Ernest) Vannest; and great-nephew, Brad Vogelmeier.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
