CALDWELL - Mary H. Baker, 95, of Caldwell, Ohio, (formerly of Lewisville, Ohio) died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2008) at her home.
She was born July 9, 1913, at her family's farm near Stafford, Ohio, daughter of the late Alexander Dominic and Katherine Helena Young Baker. She was a 1932 graduate of the former Franklin Rural High School in Stafford, Monroe County, and she received one-on-one nurses training by the late Dr. Thompson of Caldwell. She was employed as a nurse by Dr. Thompson, and was later employed by Aultman Hospital in Canton. In 1942, she started working as purchasing agent at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, from which she retired in 1969 as the chief purchasing agent for B-52 bombers. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lewisville and its Women's Guild; a member of the Franklin Homemakers Club in Franklin Township, and a member of the Amazon Chapter 30, OES in Caldwell. She was also a trustee of the Baker Family Museum in Caldwell, which was established to preserve the Baker family antique collection, which they share with the community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, John C. Baker, Charles Gilbert "Gib" Baker, Carl Lewis Baker Sr., and Joseph Baker; and an infant sister, Bernice Elizabeth Baker.
Surviving are one nephew, Carl L. (Susan) Baker Jr. of Caldwell; one great-nephew, Benjamin Dominic Baker of Caldwell; one stepgreat-niece, Anna Gale Burns of Caldwell; one stepgreat-nephew, K. Marshall Burns Jr. of Caldwell; a sister-in-law, Jewell I. Baker of Caldwell; her longtime friend and caregiver, Sharon K. Davis of Pleasant City; and a host of cousins, special friends, and acquaintances.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St., Caldwell, where an Eastern Star service will be observed at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Karen Binford officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Caldwell.
