Emma Hinsz, age 96, of Mercer, ND, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 31, 2007. She passed away peacefully at her home in Mercer while under hospice care.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Monday, August 6, 2007; Our Savior’s Lutheran Church - Mercer, ND; Rev. Randy Emgarten, Officiating; Interment: Mercer Hillside Cemetery; Visitation: 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home - Turtle Lake; Monday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Emma was born March 15, 1911 at rural Mercer, ND the first born child to Edward & Katherina (Bender) Gessele. She lived on the family farmstead and attended rural school.
Emma married Emanuel Hinsz on October 1, 1932 at rural Mercer, ND. Together they lived and farmed in the Mercer area and raised five children. Along with her child rearing responsibilities, Emma took an active role in many of the farming operations. Emanuel, her husband of nearly forty years, passed away in March, 1972.
Following Emanuel’s death, Emma continued to make her home on the farm for many years. She was an active member of the Mercer United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher, custodian, and Ladies Aid member. She later became a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Emma enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, and crocheting. She enjoyed sharing precious time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Ellan (Barbara) Hinsz of Columbia Falls, MT, Elroy (Jeanette) Hinsz of Stockton, CA; two daughters, Eunice (Leland) Vossler of Mercer, ND, & Elaine (Chet) Faudskar of Mercer, ND; thirteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, & ten great-great grandchildren; one sister, Alma Beierle of Mercer, ND; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Emanuel), son (Elmer Hinsz), two infant grandchildren (baby Faudsker & baby Hinsz), three brothers (Henry, John, & Herbert Gessele), & 2 sisters (Hilda Gessele & Martha Wagner).
