Martha M. Verhoff

Martha M. Verhoff, 87, of Lima, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Delphos, to Charles and Susan (Moreo) Lucius.
On May 11, 1946, she married Harry H. Verhoff, who died April 17, 1992.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann (Michael) Nickles of Lima, Barbara Verhoff of Rockford, IL. and Susan (Bill) Morris of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, David (Sharon) Verhoff of Somerville and Philip (Sandi) Verhoff of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Sr. Mary Clarone Lucius SND of Toledo, Sr. Rowena Lucius SGM of Lexington, Maine, and Virginia (Addison) Cadwell of Dayton; two sisters-in-law, Linda Lucius and Marceil Lucius; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Earl, Sylvester, Lester and Virgil Lucius; and a sister, Charlotte Obringer.
Mrs. Verhoff was a homemaker and retired from Westinghouse as executive secretary after more than 30 years of service. During World War II, she worked five years at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Lima, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Altar Rosary Society and member and volunteer at the VFW Post 1275 in Lima. She was hard working, loved gardening, canning and her farm, was a huge NBA fan and an avid card player. She helped many people.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church, the Rev. William J. Rose officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake will begin at 4 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the church, Lima Central Catholic or donor?s choice.
