- [S927] Obituary.
Esther June Blatter, 87, of Horner, WV went to her eternal home in Heaven on July 1, 2014 following an extended illness. Esther June Bender was born on June 5, 1927 to the late Fred and Sophia (Brenneise) Bender, Jr, who farmed in Regan, ND area. She attended a country school where her father had attended and years later her oldest daughter, Judy, also attended.
She worked on the family farm, for various neighbors and her grandmother until on November 28, 1945, she married Theodore “Ted” Blatter, son of John and Magdalena (Laib) Blatter. They lived and farmed in the Regan and Mercer, ND areas until 1956, when they purchased a farm North East of McClusky, ND, where they ran a dairy and grain farm and raised their three daughters.
In 1991 they retired and later moved to Wilton, ND. Esther worked at the State Tax Department during their busy season, until her husband suffered a paralyzing stroke and she became his full time caregiver for almost seven years until he passed away in November of 2006. In December 2006 Esther moved to Horner, WV, where she lived with her daughter Diana and son-in-law William Barnes, Jr.
While in North Dakota, Esther was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and Lutheran Women Missionary League. In West Virginia, she attended the Message of Light Tabenacle. She enjoyed many hobbies among which were stamp collecting, crocheting, hardanger, gardening, and quilting. In short, she lived to work and was always busy.
