Robert C. Rund, 83 Robert C. Rund, 83, of West Lafayette, died at 6:53 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Robinson, Ill., the son of the late Joseph Rund and Elma Smith Rund. He was a graduate of Decatur, Ill., High School and received his bachelor's degree from Millikin University in Decatur. He served in the Army during World War II. On Oct. 1, 1950, in Decatur, he married Betty J. Shumate. She died Dec. 21, 2001. He worked for 18 years at Swift & Co. in Hammond, then was an administrator in the state chemist office at Purdue University for 26 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1992. Mr. Rund was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church, serving on various committees, and was active in the Northern Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Noon Optimist Club. He received his private pilot's license at the age of 60. Surviving are two daughters, Susan L. Ince (husband: Jeff) of West Lafayette and Carol A. Ray (husband: Robert) of Waukesha, Wis.; and a sister, Patricia Bond of Fernandina Beach, Fla. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service 10 a.m. Friday at Congress Street United Methodist Church, the Rev. Glenda Woodcox officiating.
