Mrs. Mary Smith, 52, of 107 North Elm Street, died at 4 p.m. Saturady in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.c., where she had been a patient since October. She had been ill for the past year.
The body was removed to the Owens funeral home, Chammpaign. funeral services, will be held at 9 a.m. (CST) Wednesday from St. mary's church, Crittenden township. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Crittenden.
Mrs. Smith was born April 12, 1989 near Hayes in Douglas county, the daughter of John V. and Mary Kappes Rund. She married Herbert Smith on July 25, 1917 in St. Mary's church, Crittenden. She was a member of the Amvets auxillary. She had lived in Champaign since 1930.
Mrs. Smith leaves her father, John V. Rund, Pesotum; three sons, Herbert Roseburg, Ore.; Captain Robert Smith, Westover, Mass., and Kenneth, Lakewood, Ohio. One son, Lynn, preceded her in death in 1937.
She also leaves eight brothers and sisters: William Rund, Lebanon, Ore.; Mrs. Leo J. Smith, Pesotum; Joe Rund, Decatur; Coloner Henry Rund, Salzburg, Austria; Mrs. John Johans, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs Ben Johans, Cleveland, Ohio; Val J. Rund, 19 Greencroft addition; and Mrs. Martin Cler, Pesotum.
Early this year, Mrs Smith received a medical bouquet from the staff at Walter Reed for being the best and most popular patient in the hospital. She was well known for receiving the greatest volume of mail of any patient.
Friends may call at the Owens funeral home after 4 o"clock, Tuesday afternoon. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. (CST), Tuesday at the funeral home.
