Martha Mayer of St. Gabriel’s Long Term Care passed away on December 24, 2017.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd St. and Ave A., Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Schick officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Martha was born in rural Mercer, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Louisa Bender on November 5, 1917. She attended school through the eighth grade and met the love of her life attending summer school in Mercer at age 20. She married Holdrich J. Mayer on September 2, 1939, and from this union four children were born, Holdrich Dean, Orville, Gordon, and Beverley.
Martha was employed as a clerk for A. W. Lucas, JC Penney’s, and upon retiring she became very active at the Bismarck Senior Center with her husband. She had over 8,000 volunteer hours and received the Ma Werner Award in recognition. She loved to quilt and each child and grandchild would receive numerous quilts. She loved playing Pinochle and Bridge.
Martha is survived by her sons, Orville (Diana), Bismarck, Gordon (Sandra), Harvey; daughter, Beverley (Robert), Vista, CA; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Holdrich; her son, Holdrich; and was the last surviving child of nine born to Jacob and Louisa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bismarck Senior Center or Trinity Lutheran Church.
