- Christian Roth (1824-1896) was nine years old when he came to America with his father Chris Roth. He had two sisters, Elizabeth Roth Shell and Mary Roth Holmes. Whether or not Chris Roth's wife was living when he came to America no one seems to know.(NOTE: I have a 1850 Federal Census that shows Christian Roth at 25 years living with his father Nicholas Roth and wife, who would be Christian's mother, Mary. That is the last census that shows Mary with Nicholas.by Rebecca Roth) However, he did marry a second time (Anna Jeffers). This marriage did not last too long.
Christian Roth, built his father, Chris Roth and his new wife a house on his farm about 1/4 mile on the right up above what used to be the Cranes Nest store.
Chris Roth(Christian's father) drove Napolean into Moscow, but it snowed so much that he had to bring Napoleon out on a sled. He drove Napolean and Josephine many places.
Christian Roth married Nancy Grant. She with two small children are buried at New Castle (Lainges, Ohio) just inside the cemetery gates. The markers are there.
The children of Christian Roth and Nancy Grant were Mary Roth Fliekman, Nicholas Roth and Elizabeth Ann Roth Jeffers.
Mary Fliekman and her husband had a store at Attitude, Ohio on the way to Clarinton, Ohio from Woodsfield, Ohio.
Nicholas Roth was just thirteen years old when he taught school. He married Louise Ludwig and they lived on what is now the Rothenchecker farm on Sunfish Creek, just up from Cameron, Ohio.
Elizabeth Ann Roth Jeffers (1858-1958) lived to be 100 years old.
After Nancy Grant died from injuries received in a fall, Christian Roth married Barbara Rose (1839-1913). At this time Christian Roth was said to be worth $10,000. Christian Roth was the father of fifteen or sixteen children. Either two or three children from each family died from diptheria. (This material was furnished by Lorena Holtsclaw Miller of Woodsfield, Ohio)
Okey Roth (Robert O. Roth son of Charles and Clara Roth) always heard that Christian Roth gave each son a farm (or substantial payment) when each son married. The girls received money when they were married. Christian Roth was a clever dealer. He rode a horse, a fall from which, and then being dragged hastened his death.
