Agnes Nora Mettler, age 100, of Menno, SD went to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, May 17, 2012. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, May 21, 2012 at Zion Reformed Church, Menno with Rev. Travis Grassmid officiating. Burial will be in the Menno City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 PM, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, with a Scripture service at 7 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Dennis Aisenbrey, Chris Fergen, David Fergen, Ronald Mettler, Steven Mettler and Larry Streyle.
Agnes Mettler was born on a farm near Menno on February 5, 1912, to Daniel and Martha (Bender) Schnabel. She was baptized by Rev. M.C. Buettell and was later confirmed by Rev. Wm. Huenemann on July 3, 1927, at Zion Reformed Church. Agnes was united in marriage to Leo H. Mettler on March 5, 1933, by Rev. Wm. Huenemann. Agnes and Leo farmed north of Menno and had two sons, Alton and Myron. She was a lifetime member of Zion Reformed Church in Menno.
She enjoyed going on walks, playing hymns on the organ, baking, gardening in her vegetable and flower gardens, making braided rugs, embroidering and creating art. She also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.
Agnes is survived by her two sons, Alton (Bertha) Mettler and Myron Mettler of Menno, SD; granddaughter, Joni (Nicholas Johnson) Mettler of Galveston, TX; sister, Nora Aisenbrey of Menno, SD; sister-in-law, Viona Schnabel of Freeman, SD and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo H. Mettler, brother, Tillman Schnabel and brother-in-law, Edwin Aisenbrey.
