Eureka - Edna Schaeffer, 93, of Eureka died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Eureka Avera Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, Eureka. Pastor Dean Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Straub's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Edna was born June 1, 1911, to John J. Heiser and Margaretha (Weller) Heiser in Campbell County, S.D. She married Gottlieb Schaeffer on Feb. 24, 1931, at Mound City, S.D. He died Feb. 13, 1996. They lived on a farm 10 1/2 miles west of Eureka from 1931 to 1966. They moved to Eureka in 1966. She lived in her home until 1996, when she entered the Avera Healthcare Center in Eureka. She liked gardening, cooking and doing farm chores. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. She is survived by sons, Richard (Paulette) Schaeffer, Eureka, Garry (Cleo) Schaeffer, Minneapolis, Minn.; daughters, Aldena Brockel, Reseda, Calif., Elsie (Leland) Beck, Herreid, Viola (Joseph) Martindale, Acton, Calif., Janice (Gary) Boyd, Ventura, Calif., Dianna Finch, Santa Clarita, Calif.; sisters, Martha Wiedmeier, Rapid City, Mathilda Schaffer, Herreid, Ella Bader, Appleton, Minn., Katheryn Mettler, Eureka, Irene (Marvin) Knapp, Rapid City, Elsie (Merle) Mettler, Rapid City; brother, Walter (Elsie) Heiser, Miltona, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, two daughters, five sisters, one brother, two grandsons and one great-grandson. Casketbearers are Timothy Schaeffer, Chad Weiszhaar, Joe Schmidt, Ronald Beck, Brad Beck, Frank Mitzel. Organist will be Selma Lapp and music will be congregational singing. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
