Full Obituary: Phyllis Ann Hietala, nee BurkhartAge 75, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Monroe County, OH, to the late William M. and Frances T. Burkhart on July 27, 1936. Phyllis was a member of St. Mary/St. Benedict Catholic Church. She was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan and enjoyed reading the newspaper until her vision became impaired. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family - going out to eat and holidays. Aunt Phyllis could always make us smile with her unique sayings! Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Hietala; brothers, Norbert and Bernard Burkhart; sisters, Evelyn Smith, Rita Geier and Mary Brown. Survivors include brother-in-law, Bernard Brown of Canton, OH, and sister-in-law, Sharon Burkhart of Shreve, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call Monday Dec. 12, 2011 one hour prior at St. Mary/St. Benedict 1602 Market Ave S. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara at 10 AM. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary/St. Benedict Memorial Fund.
