Grace Rita Lennon
U.S. Coast Guard veteran enjoyed bowling
Grace Rita Lennon, 86, of Washington, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Friday, June 17, 2011, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
She was born October 4, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Renilda Trapp Burkhart.
Mrs. Lennon was a member of St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Marianna.
She was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy.
She was employed for many years as an account clerk in the controller's office of the Pittsburgh Board of Education until her retirement.
Mrs. Lennon enjoyed bowling, quilting and reading and loved watching cooking shows, traveling and especially spending quality time with her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washington, and Christian Mothers at St. Sebastian Church in North Hills.
Mrs. Lennon served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946, receiving the Honorable Discharge Button, the Honorable Service Button and the Honorable Service Emblem.
Surviving are her children, Grace (Vincent) Merlina of Pittsburgh, Geraldine (John) Reuschlein of Linesville, Judith Lennon of Washington, Thomas (Phyllis) Lennon of Aleppo and Joyce (George) McDonald of Amity; a brother, Ralph Burkhart of Marietta, Ohio; a sister, Sister M. Joyce Burkhart (Order of St. Francis) of Bellevue; nine grandchildren, Vincent (Heather) Merlina, Jennifer (Terry) Sine, Rebecca (James) Keller, Brian Merlina, Elizabeth (Jason) Sperry, Joseph (Tracey) Merlina, William Reuschlein, Cynthia Merlina (Donald) and Bailey McDonald; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Pete Burkhart.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, West Chestnut Street, Washington.
