Raymond Leonard Ehley
Raymond Leonard Ehley, 72, Minot, ND, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in a Minot nursing home. Raymond was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Ashley, ND, the son of Michael and Johanna (Wagner) Ehley. He graduated from the eighth grade, then worked for one year for an area farmer. He then entered Ashley High School graduating in 1948. He taught in a one-room school house and some time attended an electrical school in Chicago. Raymond served in the United States Army during th Korean war and following his discharge returned to North Dakota. Raymond earned his teaching degree at Ellendale Teachers College. He married LoVina Glaesman Aug. 12, 1956, in Ashley. The couple lived in numerous cities in the state where Raymond taught and was administrator. The schools he served were in Zeeland, Sarles and Calvin, Carson and Lieth, and Plaza. LoVina died April 3, 1977. Raymond retired as superintendent of Plaza High School in 1984, then moved to Minot. He married Alice Kerzman June 15, 1985. They made their home in Minot. Raymond was diagnosed with Pick?s disease in 1993, and in 1995 he entered Trinity Homes, Minot, where he had resided until his death. Raymond enjoyed hiking around Lake Sakakawea and looking for antiques. Debating religious interpretations and playing pinochle with relatives were favorite pastimes. He was a member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, Minot, and had been an active church member in all the communities in which he had lived. Left here to celebrate his resurrection are his wife, Alice, Minot; daughters, Bonita Kay (Paul) Tranby, Eagan, MN, and their children Cory and Dorisa; Michelle Rae (Jerry) Rowell, George, IA and their daughter, Johanna; Julie Ann (Greg) Chmelik, Faribault, MN, and their sons, Dalton and Tristan; stepdaughters, Vicky (Bill) Bemman, Dickinson, ND, and their children, Jennifer and Emily, and one great-grandson, Landon; Pamela (John) Sculley, Abercrombie, ND, and their children, John, Jr., and Joshua, stepson, Rick (Pamela) Kerzman, Omaha, NE, and their children, Nathan, Chayse, Kelsey and Austin; brothers and sisters, Clara (Clifford) Lautt, San Diego, CA, Alvin (Alma) Ehley and Walter (Lorraine) Ehley, all Ashley, Luella Modahl, Minneapolis, MN, Marvin (Ione) Ehley, Aberdeen, SD; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his first wife, LoVina; one grandson, Shannon Paul Tranby; his parents, Michael and Johanna as well as two infant brothers. The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, ND. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley, ND. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, was in charge of arrangements.
