shley, N.D. -- The funeral for Rudolph 'Rudy' Ulrich, 92, of Ashley will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.
Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Ashley Medical Center.
Rudolph Ulrich was born March 26, 1908, to George and Katherina (Kranzler) Ulrich on the family homestead 16 miles northeast of Ashley in McIntosh County. This is where he grew up and received his education in Iowa Township Country School. He worked on the family homestead.
He married Ruth Klein on Oct. 15, 1933, in Ashley. They lived and farmed with his family. They purchased the farm in the late 1940s. In 1969, he semi-retired and they moved into Ashley. He worked for several area farmers and businessmen in the Ashley area. In 1976, he retired from work to care for his wife at home. She died Dec. 25, 1982. He entered the Ashley Nursing Home on Feb. 21, 1997.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Sunshine Club.
He was known as the bicycle repairman and for his hand-knitted caps and scarves. He enjoyed making homemade puzzles and playing cards.
Survivors include one son, Edwin (Marcella) Ulrich of Ashley; one daughter, Darlene (Emil) Glaesman of Ashley; one sister, Tillie Leicht of Lodi, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Howard Mettler of Eureka, Julie Ulrich of Fargo, N.D., and Terry Ulrich, Gary Ulrich, Dennis Ulrich and Lori Blocker, all of Ashley.
