Garretson, SD-Funeral service for Alvin "Al" E. Glaesman, 78, of Garretson and formerly of Gettysburg, SD and Watertown, SD will be Friday, January 12, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley, ND. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.
Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53.
He died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Palisade Manor at Garretson.
Alvin "Al" E. Glaesman, son of Gottlieb and Rosina (Hoff) Glaesman was born September 13, 1928 on the family homestead south of Ashley, ND. This is where he grew up while attending country school. He worked on the family farm until November of 1950 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in January of 1951.
He was united in marriage to Inez Bader on June 24, 1951 at Wishek, ND. For a short time they made their home at Camp Rucker, Alabama. In 1953, he was discharged from the National Guard and they moved to a farm near Ashley until 1955 when they moved to Huron, SD where he worked for Concrete Products. In 1975, they moved to Watertown where he owned and operated Jimco Redi-Mix until 1986. He was very active in the community.
Al enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a life member of Isaac Walton League, was South Dakota's 1st life member of Duck's Unlimited and was a past president of SD Redi-Mix Association.
Survivors include one son, Steve (Nadine) Glaesman of Gettysburg, two brothers, Emil (Darlene) Glaesman of Ashley and Ervin (Lucille) Glaesman of Lehr, ND, three grandchildren, Amy (Dallas) Almond of Huron, April (Jayson) Drake of Tea, SD and Zach Glaesman of Gettysburg, four great-grandchildren, Whitney, Macey, Matt and Ayden and 32 nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, three sisters, one of which was his twin, three brothers and two nephews preceded him in death.
Casketbearers will be Doug Jenner, Dennis Jenner, Lori Blocker, Dean Glaesman, Charles Glaesman and Rueben Glaesman.
The organist will be Steve Glaesmann.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley have been entrusted with the arrangements.
