Aberdeen - Arvin G. Glaesman, 79, Aberdeen, formerly of Leola, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at the Aberdeen Living Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at St. James Lutheran Church, Leola, with the Rev. Erik Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Mound Cemetery at Leola, under direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arvin Gottlieb Glaesman was born Dec. 31, 1926, at Ashley, N.D., to Gottlieb and Rosina (Hoff) Glaesman. This is the place where he attended school and grew to adulthood on the family farm. He married Clara Ketterling on Oct. 2, 1949. They lived at Long Lake until 1950, when they moved to Leola. In 1951 he went into the rock and gravel business with his brother Reinhold. In 1954 he bought the rock and gravel business. It was later expanded into the concrete business in Eureka and Leola, which is still being operated by his family. Clara died in 1978. He then married Sylvia Cleberg Nash on June 14, 1980, at Groton, S.D. They lived at Leola where they continued to operate the business. They enjoyed traveling together. He became a resident of Aberdeen Living Center in February 2004. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to all of his family members. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia J. Glaesman of Leola; one son, Charles (Rhona) Glaesman of Eureka; three daughters, Susan (Tom) Thorpe of Forbes, N.D., Deborah (Tom) Mahlke of Forbes, N.D., and Diane (Curtis) Schumacher of Leola; four stepdaughters, Penelope (Roger) Barondeau of Aberdeen, Dawn (Steve) Monson of Webster, Rosalie (Dan) Keihl of Aberdeen, and Violet (Randy) Tewksbury of Ferney; three brothers, Emil (Darlene) Glaesman of Ashley, N.D., his twin, Ervin (Lucille) Glaesman of Lehr, N.D., and Alvin Glaesman of Waubay; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Karmen) Glaesman, Jason Glaesman, Lucas Glaesman, Bryson (Greta) Thorpe, Jill (Manuel) Diaz, Justin Thorpe, T.J. Mahlke, Lacy Mahlke, Tina (Joel) Guthmiller, and Darren (Angela) Schumacher; three great-grandchildren, Max Schumacher, Cade Guthmiller and Carly Guthmiller; eight stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Arvin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clara Ketterling Glaesman; three sisters, LaVina Ehley, Mary Glaesman, Alma Ehley; two brothers, Reinhold Glaesman and Arthur Glaesman; and one stepson, Elmer Nash, Jr. Casketbearers will be T.J. Mahlke, Darren Schumacher, Chad Glaesman, Jason Glaesman, Lucas Glaesman, Bryson Thorpe, and Justin Thorpe.
