Leander A. Burkhart, 88, of 30821 T.R. 61, Lewisville, Ohio died Monday, May 12, 2008 at his residence. He was born near Lewisville, Ohio on August 4, 1919 a son of the late Aloysius and Cecilia Schwallie Burkhart.
He was a retired farmer; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church near Lewisville, Ohio and was a
member of the V.F.W. Post 5303, Woodsfield, Ohio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Constantine Burkhart and two brothers, Lucian and Herman Burkhart.
Surviving are two sisters: Stella (Paul) Crum of Woodsfield, Ohio and sister Joanna Burkhart of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother: Cyril (Rosemary) Burkhart of Lewisville, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route
78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2008.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May
16, 2008 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church near Lewisville, Ohio with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery near Lewisville, Ohio with military services.
Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
