Aberdeen: The funeral service for Alma Bender, 93, of Aberdeen will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at First Assembly of God, with Pastor Gary Wileman officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Alma died Monday, April 2, 2012, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main St.
Alma Jean Delzer was born Jan. 21, 1919, to Heinrich ?Henry? and Margaretha (Krueg) Delzer in Ashley, ND. She grew up around the Ashley area where they lived on a farm. In 1941, she married Herman Bender at Ashley, ND. They moved to Stockton, CA, where they lived before moving back to Ashley, ND, in 1947. In 1949, they moved to Aberdeen, where they made their home and raised two sons. Alma was employed for 19 years at the Aberdeen YMCA. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Aberdeen, where she served in the women and prayer ministries and as a Sunday school teacher.
Her family is comforted by memories of ?Granny? preparing amazing German dishes, especially kuchen, the many blankets she lovingly crocheted and her love for her Savior.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Dale (Kathlyn) Bender, Sierra Vista, AZ; two granddaughters, Mrs. Renee Lindberg (and her husband, T.J. Lindberg), Miami, FL ,and Rhonda Bender, Tacoma, WA; her great-grandchildren, Owen, Paige and Mason Lindberg; and her sister, Florence Smith, Medford, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Heinrich and Margaretha Delzer; former husband, Herman Bender; son, Rodney Bender; grandson, Randal Bender; sisters, Ida Arnold, Lydia Saylor, Ella Goehring; and brothers, Edward Delzer and William Delzer.
