Ava Marie Jacobs was born on January 8, 1919, near Regent, ND. She lived there with her parents, Clarence and Edith (Huff) Jacobs and seven brothers and sisters. She received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in New England, ND.
On October 16, 1939, she married her sweetheart, Henry Hoff, and they made their home in Mandan, ND, where they both worked. After World War II started they moved to Bremerton, WA, where they both worked at the Puget Sound Navy Yard until the war was over. In 1946 they moved to the Bison, SD, area where they farmed, ranched and raised two children: Sandra and Douglas.
Ava was an extremely ambitious person. She was always the first to volunteer for community projects and especially enjoyed helping others. She worked for many years on the Perkins County Fair Board and truly enjoyed doing anything that involved the church. Her hobbies were horse riding, fishing, quilting, reading, checking cattle, playing cards and doing anything with her friends and grandchildren.
Ava passed away on April 22, 2004, at Rochester, MN. She now resides with her parents, Clarence and Edith, siblings, Katherine, Betty, Leo and Glenn, as well as her many friends and relatives that have passed on before her. Waiting to see her again in heaven are her husband Henry; her daughter, Sandra and husband John Larson with their children, Ian and Jessica; her son Douglas and his wife Molly, along with their children, Brian and Andrea; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, AJ and Brianna. Also waiting are her brothers, Albert, Joseph, James, and Peter Jacobs. A memorial has been established by her family.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted with the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
