Alvira S. Froelich, 87, Mandan, died July 31, 2000, in a
Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m.
Friday
at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev.
Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in the
North
Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, south of Mandan. Visitation
will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson
Funeral Home, Mandan. A Catholic Daughters rosary will
be said at 4 p.m. Thursday, and a rosary and parish
vigil
will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Alvira
was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Kensett, Iowa, the daughter of
Theodore and Tena (Hegle) Tostenson. She and her
family moved to a farm near Lisbon where she was raised
and educated. A graduate of Lisbon High School, she
attended beauty school in Fargo. She moved to Mandan
where she was employed as a beautician and met her
husband to be, William G. Froelich. They were married on
March 22, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, while Bill was in
the U.S. Army. She and Bill returned to make their home
in Mandan following World War II. After their children
were grown, Alvira worked as a hairdresser for many
years. A cheerful person with a positive attitude, she
enjoyed crossword puzzles and spent many happy hours
fishing with Bill and her children. She is survived by
her
husband, Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and
Dennis Phillips, Phoenix; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Gary and Roberta, Chelmsford, Mass., and Ted and
Yoshi, Yokosuka, Japan; five grandchildren, Melissa and
Chad Phillips, and Daniel, Amy and Tim Froelich; and two
brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville and Joyce
Tostenson,
Sunnyvale, Calif., and Jim and Marge Tostenson,
Sacramento, Calif. She was preceded in death by her
parents; one sister, Goldie Steffarud; and two brothers,
Dale and Morris Tostenson.
