Aberdeen: Funeral service for Roman ?Louie? Guthmiller, 77, of Aberdeen will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Aberdeen.
Prayer service is 7:30 p.m. Monday with visitation from 5-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
He died April 30, 2010, at his home.
Roman L. ?Louie? Guthmiller, son of Ludwig and Katharina (Schumacher) Guthmiller was born June 1, 1932, at Roscoe, S.D. He graduated with the class of 1952 from Roscoe. He entered the United States Army shortly after high school.
He was united in marriage to Ramona Beck on Sept. 9, 1953, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roscoe. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked construction for Schnuerle and Gustafson. He then became employed with Wilson Freight Line. Following this, he delivered milk for DeVries Dairy to West River. He went to work for Pepsi during which time he suffered a broken back. After his recovery, he sold insurance for Dakota Farmer. He found that Perry Solberg wanted to sell his gas/service station, Perry's Mileage. He purchased it in 1967, and renamed it Louie's Service, which it remains to this day. He was in the station until 1980 when he entered the postal service. He retired from the postal service as a rural carrier in 1995. In addition to his many careers, he always enjoyed doing farm work.
Roman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a past choir member and council member. He also was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; four children: Pastor Mark (Linda) Guthmiller of Clark, S.D., Peggy (Dale) Martens and Ron (Brenda) Guthmiller, both of Aberdeen, and Kathryn (Marvin) Cooper of Surprise, Ariz.; one sister, Alita (Al) Buechler of Gettysburg, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.
His parents, two brothers, Harold and Edwin, one sister, Mathilda ?Tillie? Buechler, and one grandson, James Guthmiller, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, or Great Plains Lutheran High School, Watertown, S.D.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen have been entrusted with arrangements.
