Orvind Bertsch
Funeral services for Orvind Bertsch, 80, formerly of Lehr, were held Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Haut Funeral Chapel, Wishek, with Rev. Rick Craig officiating. He died Oct. 4 at the North Dakota Veteran's Home in Lisbon.
Orvind Bertsch was born June 3, 1926 at the family farm home, near Danzig, the son of Adam Bertsch and Elizabeth (Koepplin) Bertsch. He attended the local rural school, where he received his elementary education. He grew to manhood in the vicinity, while he helped on the family farm.
Orvind entered the United States Air Force on July 16, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn. He was discharged Dec. 17, 1945 at Greensboro, N.C., with the rank of private.
Orvind married Violet Wolf on Oct. 14, 1948 at Eureka, S.D. They made their home on the farm near Lehr, where they farmed until 1992, when they moved into Jamestown. They managed Tan America and Style Center I until 1998, when they retired.
Orvind was a member of Klauss-Becker American Legion Post 218 at Lehr for 48 years. He also was a longtime member of the Lehr Wildlife Club and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Orvind is survived by a daughter, Vickie (Roger) Martin, Linton; three sons, Kenny Bertsch, Larkspur, Colo., Karmen (Mary Beth) Bertsch, Jamestown, and Kelly (Dee) Bertsch, Bismarck; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Erma ( Edwin) Walz, Ashley; and two brothers, Eldin (Ida) Bertsch, Ellendale and Clayton (Pearl) Bertsch, Ypsilanti.
Orvind was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Elmer.
